Facebook Profile Image
The profile image for your Facebook page is square.
In desktop or larger screens, the image gets resized to 180 x 180, and in mobile devices, the image gets converted to 128 x128.
Points to note before uploading the profile image for your brand:
- Design your original image squarely (ideally 340 x 340 or 500 x 500) for the best results after uploading the image to Facebook.
- If the pictures are too small (100 x 100) then it will get blurred on bigger screens.

Facebook cover photo

- Doesn’t display on non-smartphones
- Must be at least 399 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall or more.
- Loads fastest as an sRGB JPG file that’s 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall and less than 100 kilobyte.
Points to note
- Like in profile image, you get the option to Reposition the cover image. That can be used for minute adjustments. However, for the optimal results, it is best of start designing with the dimensions 820 px X 461 px.
- If you are concerned about the quality of your cover image in high-resolution retina screen devices, then you can choose the size 1656 px X 930 px. It will render a high-quality Facebook cover image that will appear in perfect quality in all the devices.
Facebook shared link thumbnails
Getting the perfect Facebook image size for thumbnails is one of the most common publishing issues that every blogger and marketer encounter.
Whenever you share a link on the Facebook timeline, it searches for the features images within the post and displays it as the link thumbnail. It also looks for the Open Graph tags for a page, specifically the image tag, which specifies the image that Facebook should use when sharing in the News Feed. You also get the option to load another image as the link thumbnail. If you are on WordPress, there are many SEO plugins using. You can set the open graph images for your images so that the Facebook can find them as the image to be displayed as link thumbnail.
In both the cases, the system of Facebook will resize the image to the default value of 470 px X 246 px.
Therefore if you are using an image that is less than 470 x 246, then the link preview will get resized into a small square or postage stamp size. (like the picture below).
As per Facebook, to get an ideal large preview link thumbnail for your shared links you should design the images in the dimension 1200 px X 627 px. That will render the perfect large thumbnail preview for your shared links and larger thumbnails get you more clicks on your links.

Facebook social photos on timeline
Timeline photos are one of the crowdest aspects of Facebook. By an estimate, Facebook users (individuals and companies) are uploading on average 350 million photos every day.
